Buy and care for Paphiopedilum Orchidee (Venus slipper)

This voluptuous lady from the Orchid family is also called Venus Shoe or Woman's Shoe. The official name is Paphiopedilum. The paphiopedilum is a genus with about 125 wild species distributed throughout tropical and subtropical China, India, Southeast Asia and Oceania. These plants keep making new shoots. The leaves are often mottled and may be short and rounded or lanceolate. The flowers appear on a raceme, with one or a few flowers.
As with all other genera of the subfamily Cypripedioideae, a conspicuous lip is present. This lip resembles a pouch and is used to catch insects for pollination. Once an insect has crawled into the pouch, it can only get out through a small opening. As he crawls out, his body comes into contact with the pollen clumps. With the next flower, the insect will fertilize the pistil.
Light: Place the Paphiopedilum in the shade or in a bright place, but not in direct sunlight.
Temperature: The Paphiopedilum likes a temperature around 15⁰C.
Toilet: An orchid should not be too wet. One watering every seven to nine days is sufficient. Only water the Paphiopedilum again when the soil is almost dry. This is easy to measure with a skewer. Insert the skewer into the ground and lift it up every now and then. When the skewer is dry, the Paphiopedilum needs water.
