Saw-toothed cactus – Epiphyllum anguliger

4.95

The saw cactus is also called the leaf cactus, but its official name is the Epiphyllum Anguliger. The term saw cactus is really just a really good description of this cutie. It is a cactus with a type of flat wavy leaves (although these are actually more stems than leaves). There is also a chance that it will flower. Then you will see that there will be white flowers in your cactus (from what I have read even with a diameter of 15 cm). Unfortunately this has not happened to me yet. By the way, I also read that the flowers only bloom for one night, so the chance that you see them in the beautiful condition is also small.

The saw cactus is a kind of cross between an ordinary plant and a hanging plant. You will see that new stems grow into the air first and eventually droop later. This gives a funny effect, with a combination of hanging stems and a kind of spines of upright stems.

Although it is a cactus-like, the saw cactus is not a desert cactus. This means that it does not enjoy full sun and hardly any water. The saw cactus is best placed in a light place or a place more in the shade, but not in full sun. Water it regularly, but make sure that the soil does not remain wet in between. Completely dry as with the normal cactus is not the intention, however. A dash once a week will probably work just fine. As with any plant: just check the soil regularly, then you'll know if you're in the right place.

Cuttings of the saw cactus is not a complicated job in itself. You do need a lot of patience, I found. You take a cutting by very easily cutting off a stem with a sharp knife. You can then place this cutting directly in the (cutting) soil. Now it is important to keep the soil slightly moist at all times. I cut my saw cactus about 2 months ago. The cutting is now still growing steadily, but unfortunately no new stems have been added yet. If you have a lot of patience, this should eventually happen. I wonder if this will work for me!
