The Peace Lily or Spathiphyllum is a beautiful evergreen plant which is widely known for being easy to care for, even by those who do not have a green thumb. The Spathiphyllum is a houseplant with several nicknames, of which the Spoonplant is perhaps the most famous. This name gives away the appearance of the plant, because the shape of the leaf/flower is very similar to that of a spoon. The Spathiphyllum is a very popular plant to give as a gift, because of the colorful and cheerful character that the plant exudes.
The leaves of Peace Lily are slightly poisonous. So make sure that small children and animals cannot reach it. On the other hand, it is air-purifying. It quickly converts CO2 into oxygen. That is good for everyone's health!
The Spathiphyllum flowers for about four to ten weeks and then needs a few weeks of rest to develop new flower buds. It is wise to cut off the old (green) flower stem completely after flowering. The Spathiphyllum continues to develop new shoots, which produce flowers again after approximately twelve weeks. To promote flowering, it can be a good idea to temporarily keep the plant slightly drier and place it in a slightly colder place.
