De Aloë Vera (cuttings) originates from the Middle East. This succulent or succulent is now widespread in the Caribbean, Central America and Asian countries. Due to the many properties of the juice, the plant is widely cultivated for drinks, wound medicine, sunscreen and cosmetics. The thick leaf grows from a base and is up to 60cm long. Small teeth are present on the edges of the pastel-colored green-grey leaves.

General: This succulent plant with sturdy long spines, probably originates from North Africa and Arabia. It is a desert plant that grows in a sunny place in a sandy soil. It grows to about 60 to 90 cm. It is a slow grower that only flowers after the third year. The bell-shaped flowers are orange-yellow to orange-red and rise up to 1m long flower stems. Although aloe resembles a cactus in appearance, it belongs to the botanical family of the lily plants.

Tip: This tropical succulent is also widely used in the cosmetics world. A gel is extracted from the leaves that is used on wounds and minor burns. Also with eczema. The medicinal effect is greater in plants older than 2 years. As early as 2200 BC. Aloe vera was known as a remedy for skin problems. Egyptians used the sap to embalm mummies.

  • The plant is suitable for hydroponics.
  • The leaves are prickly only on the edge.
  • Repot every two to three years in the spring. Use a standard potting soil or a potting soil specifically for cacti and succulents.
